Berghöfe Riedberg

The new urban quarter in Frankfurt-Riedberg responds to contemporary living needs, emphasizing community, well-being, privacy, and security. The project establishes an urban village that fosters both spatial and social connections, encouraging community life in various forms, accommodating family life and leisure. Positioned to provide a direct connection and visual reference to the city, the project articulates residential volumes to integrate into the existing urban context. The individual buildings are grouped like a village around various sized squares, courtyards, playgrounds, meadows, viewing and meeting points. The heart of the development is the Anger, the central square that acts as the social nucleus of the quarter and offers magnificent views of Frankfurt’s skyline. Pathways connect the residential area to the Science City Frankfurt Riedberg, blending the private with public, green spaces with urban life, and fostering community interaction.

Each of the eight courtyards is named after a Hessian mountain to foster a connection to the regional identity. The quarter emphasizes green living spaces, providing both communal areas and secure private courtyards, from expansive gardens for families to low-maintenance terraces for those enjoying the greenery without garden work. Individual trees, plantings and play areas further enhance the verdant community space.
